Monday 9th July 2007 saw the Ipswich Rangers play the long awaited game against the West
Bulldogs. The match had the added feature that it carried double points due to our first round
match being abandoned.

Erica Storckenfeldt (SWEDEN) stuck on a delayed flight home (thanks Qantas).
Erica Storckenfeldt (SWEDEN) stuck on a delayed flight home (thanks Qantas).

The game started with West’s only able to field 14 players, but due to some stout defence and
aggressive attack on both sides, and it being one of the COLDEST NIGHTS OF THE YEAR, it
took nearly 15 minutes before West’s were able to cross the line for our first try of the night
after some great lead up work by our forward pack working a well rehearsed move of a rolling
maul to release Flik into the left corner. It took another 10 minutes before Ann Stirling open
up there defence after the forwards used a good combination of pick and drive, and the rolling
maul to suck in the Rangers defence. Then in the last minute of the first half Ame broke
loose with a great run that cut through their defences and scored out wide on the right. This
was then converted by Muzzy with her best kick of the season so far. West’s headed to the
half time break with a 17 to nil lead.

With coach Warren Harding missing due to work commitments, the girls  reinforced that they
needed to head back to basics and stick to the game plan of not over committing and keep the
passing lanes clear for the fast ball.

The girls came out in the second half ready to show that the wind was not a factor of their lead
as they proceeded to display fast running rugby they are capable of playing.
This resulted in a further 3 second half tries for a final score of 36 to 0.

Both Leta and Stirlo turned in one of their best performance to date running in two great tries
each. But the performance of the night belonged to Ame for her great running and MACK
TRUCK like tackles that stopped her opposing players in there tracks. Beka also had a stand
out night with several great hit ups and is now showing the form that next year should earn
her consideration for further representative honours, while Noa again showed her ability and
eagerness to work for her team mates by fulfilling what ever role is required of her.

Congratulations to the Bulldog’s for a true team effort.
